Commercial banks have publicly announced interest rates on their fixed deposit for the month of Kartik. After the bankers' association abolished the interest rate cartel, banks have been determining interest rates according to their own discretion from the month of Sawan. According to the newly published interest rates, two banks have increased the interest rates in the month of Ashoj, while 14 banks have decreased them. Additionally, four banks have decided to keep the interest rates unchanged in the month of Ashoj.
According to the newly published interest rates for the month of Kartik, Himalayan Bank, NMB Bank, and NIC Asia Bank have declared the highest interest rates, offering up to 11.003% and 9.003% for individual and institutional accounts, respectively. On the other hand, standard chartered Bank have offered 5.50% for individual and institutional accounts each.
Among the banks, Nepal SBI Bank and NMB Bank have increased interest rates in comparison to the month of Ashoj. However, Laxmi Bank, Machhapuchchhre Bank, Siddhartha Bank, and Rastriya Banijya Bank have maintained the same interest rates as the previous month i.e. Ashoj.
The average interest rate for commercial banks for individual FD accounts in the month of Ashoj was 10.25% , which has decreased by 0.47% to 9.78% for the month of Kartik. Similarly, for institutional accounts, the average interest rate on FD was 8.25% in Ashoj, which decreased by 0.40% to 7.85% in Kartik.
